![]() Why in the world would they? There’s no opportunity here and it’s becoming less and less by the day. which would be true.It doesn’t even remotely surprise me that most of the Norfolk youth who head to college and university never come back. presumably because they’re all well aware that if I find a job in my field I’ll be gone in heartbeat. I’ve had several successful interviews for minimum wage jobs. but who really wants someone to work for them when you know they don’t really want to be there. ![]() especially in the winter.I’m not even sure why employees would be keen on these changes. so how are they supposed to be able to afford to drive 2 hours a day to work? Heck, I’d bet that many people who are already only making minimum wage don’t even have a vehicle that’s reliable enough to be driving 2 hours a day. Those people are going to get screwed. And many people around here only make minimum wage. Best of luck to them finding a second job that’s willing to work around that especially for those who only have agriculture working experience and are in their 50 s or 60 s. If they want the job, they are expected to be available. and are still expected to be on call if an order happens to come in etc etc. And yes, we have people who work in the agricultural sector that get 2 or 3 months in the summer off. but I’m finding most of the comments on here to be beyond repulsive. And I’ll be interested to see how this plays out in a few years: – How many more people will be on Welfare -How many more will be claiming for disabilities -How many more will be using the food banks -How many more people will lose their homes -How many more offshore workers will be here -And how this is going to effect the seasonal employers/employees who I’m betting will either have offshore workers, or employees who are being forced to be there and really don’t give a rats a$$. and can only work where I can walk to, or car pool. And no, I am not collecting EI. Now I’m stuck in this black hole that is Norfolk and can’t afford to get out. ![]() who would like to offer me a job and transportation?! I went to post- srnacdoey for something I absolutely love and can’t find a job in my field if my life depended on it (even when I had access to reliable transportation).
